John Stango is a leader of Contemporary American Pop Art


John Stango is an American print-maker, artist and painter born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania US. When John Stango was born in 1958, his parents were high on expectations that he would grow up to becoming an influential man in the society. His mother Frances Elaine Rockwell was a painter. It was only going to be a matter of time before John could follow the ways of the family and become a great painter himself. He started painting as young boy and when the time came to join college, Stango opted for Tyler School of Art at Temple University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Graphic Design. He perfected his art skills after college and is now one of the most accomplished American artists alive.

After graduating at Tyler School of Art, John Stango was hired by Macy's and Bloomingdale's department stores as a display artist. Restless as he had always been from early childhood, Stango moved on and began creating silk screen t-shirts before turning his attention to full-time painting. He currently works at an historic warehouse just outside Philadelphia. Some of the well known paintings by John Stango include Batman and Elvis, Mickey Mouse and Heineken, Audrey Hepburn and Lucky Strike, among other popular artworks. John is the painter of the infamous Stewardess series that depict retro stewardess and are titled after current-day beauties. Notable paintings include Judi, Wendy, Ginger, Buttercup, Mimi and the well-like Patrick that is dedicated to a cross-dresser Steward.
